Scripture:
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5 About this Image: This is the oak tree that stands alone in the meadow across from the Lawson place in Cades Cove. It is a "famous" tree, if a tree can be famous. Just Google "The Tree Cades Cove" and search in images and you will see many pictures of this tree. I took this picture last winter. I had taken many pictures of this tree in the summer and fall but had never climbed the fence and walked through the meadow to the tree. This time the grass was short and there wasn't anyone around so I climbed over the fence and walked all the way to the tree and touched the trunk. There were so many branches, all different shapes and sizes. I can't really explain why, but this was just a special privilege to touch the trunk of this tree, so strong and old and beautiful. As I look at the branches, I remember the words of Jesus in John 15. Jesus bids us to abide in him like the many branches of this tree - and he is strong enough to hold many branches of all shapes and sizes. Abide in Jesus, take your sustenance from him, and you will bear much fruit.
