Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Have you ever watched a leaf fall from a tree, followed it with your eyes from the branch to the ground? If the conditions are just right it seems to dance through the sky all the way down. It has let go of the branch and now it is being transformed into nourishment for the forest floor. The leaf has a new purpose now. Paul urges us to be like the leaves. To let go of the patterns of the world and let God transforms us into his purpose. It isn’t an easy thing to do but when we do we will be able to find God’s will and purpose for our lives.
Prayer Holy God Give us the joy of the leaf that dances to the ground as we surrender to your will. Transform our lives as we let go and find the purpose you have for us this day. Amen

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, There is something about fog that brings a quietness and stillness to the early morning. Everything seems to slow down. We need to take time to slow down for it is in the stillness that we will find God. Katharina A. von Schlegel wrote a beautiful hymn set to the tune Finlandia in 1752 that I share with you now as my prayer. (To hear a beautiful arrangement of this hymn go here)
Prayer Be Still, My Soul Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side. Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain. Leave to thy God to order and provide; In every change, He faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heavenly Friend Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake To guide the future, as He has the past. Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake; All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know His voice Who ruled them while He dwelt below. Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on When we shall be forever with the Lord. When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone, Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past All safe and blessed we shall meet at last. Amen Sing praises to God, sing praises! When I think about kings I imagine palaces filled with gold, stunning in their beauty and filled with light. The palace of Our King is so much greater than any building for our Great King created the universe. He has given us a beautiful place to life and fills our world at this time of year with the brilliant colors of autumn. As the sun warms our hearts God's love shines in our lives with the golden light of autumn.
Prayer Great King This day we bow to you and seek to serve you with our obedience. We sing your praise in the golden light of autumn. Amen Sing praises to the LORD, O you his faithful ones, and give thanks to his holy name. As you have seen from my lack of posts, I have found it very hard to write in the past several weeks. The pandemic has spread across our world and close to home. The chances to take my camera, walk in God’s world, and listen for his voice have been greatly diminished. Darkness and weariness have set in as my routine and my view of the world seems to be the same every day.
Gratefully this past week we were able to go camping very close to home. The best thing about this campground is that it is only a 1 minute walk from the camper down to the lake with view to the east. Each morning it was so easy to watch the sunrise, each one a little different. On the last day of our trip I walked down to the lake only to see a large cloud right where the sun was going to come up. I almost went back up the hill but I decided to stay. As the sun broke through the cloud I saw a sunrise like I have never seen before. The sun made the mist that was rising from the lake shine like pure gold. It was just amazing to see everything cast in golden light, the mist like fire on the water. During times of darkness and weariness that we all face, the sunrise reminds us that God has promised to replace our weeping with joy in ways that will last a lifetime, beyond anything we can imagine. To him we sing our praise Prayer God of Morning Light Remind us in our darkest hour that your joy will come again with morning in ways we cannot fathom. We sing praise to our Lord who gives us amazing sunrises. Amen |
